Information for Puppy Buyers
Breeders advertising on this page are SABT registered breeders. In order for a pup to be birth registered with the SABT, both of it's parents have to be appraised and registered.
When a litter of pups is born, the breeder has to notify the SABT, in order that the pup can be birth registered. In the main this is done via an online system, though some breeders still have Birth Notification Books.
As a buyer you should be given a copy of the online registration form or a "Birth Notification Slip" - example here. The SABT will then forward a Birth Certificate for your pup.
Your name should appear on this paperwork as the "owner". Occasionally the litter may have been registered before you decide to purchase. The breeder should then arrange for with the SABT for a change of ownership so that papers can be re-issued in your name. DO NOT ACCEPT paperwork that shows the breeder as the owner of the dog unless you have a prior arrangement with the breeder.
Only dogs who have registered can be SABT appraised and regarded as breedworthy.
Remember - do your homework - make sure you ask about what health guarantees your breeder will give you and ensure you ask to see all paperwork pertaining to health checks the breeder tells you they have made.
